I decided to avoid my twitter, and Blackberry Messenger today as I couldn’t face looking at updates from my friends who were at the Chanel haute couture show this morning… However, I eventually had to relent and see what gorgeousness Karl Lagerfeld has created now.
The models looked like floaty, ethereal creatures, dressed in clothes of a palette of pastel pinks and silvery greys. As well as the stunning embellishments (a key part of any haute couture collection), bows appearing on loose sashes on drop-waisted skirts were a key feature of the collection.
The use of black accents, such as the ribbon chokers, worn high on the neck by all the models, made reference to the French fashion house’s signature palette of black and cream, though the light-as-air fabrics in the palest of pink gave it a fresh, modern twist.
As is traditional in a haute couture show, a bridal gown, worn by 46 year old model Kristin McMenamy closed the show. It was no coincidence that she is most famous for her long, silver-grey hair, as it was in keeping with Lagerfeld’s colour scheme
